Toshiba SD2700 DVD Player Review

My SD2700 has always worked fine. My only complaint is that it will not play the DVD+R format (probably because it was built before that was invented?) so I have to go buy DVD-R and rerecord my home movies onto that.

Toshiba SD2700 DVD Player Feature

  • DVD-video player offers playback of DVDs, standard CDs, and CD-R-formatted discs
  • Picture Preference mode offers 2 black-level settings and 3 preset picture modes
  • Coaxial digital output for external decoding of Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks
  • HDCD precision filtering and decoding provide 20-bit audio resolution
  • Enhanced sound from conventional audio CDs

Toshiba SD2700 DVD Player Overview

Toshiba includes performance-enhancement and convenience features throughout its entire DVD line, and the SD2700 exemplifies the company's commitment to high-performance and high-value. A special Picture Preference mode (designated as EPM on the remote control) offers viewers a choice of two black level settings and three pre-set picture modes. The NORMAL setting provides the NTSC standard black cutoff level of 7.5ire. The Enhanced Black Level is pre-set for zero black level cutoff, providing a wider dynamic range of Brightness (black level). The three pre-set picture modes include: MOVIE ONE, for enhanced contrast and brighter black levels; MOVIE TWO for softer, more lustrous color rendition, with a glossy tone; and ANIMATION, which enhances the image by brightening colors and providing for rich, solid black reproduction. For optimum audio performance, the SD2700 features coaxial and optical digital audio outputs, permitting external decoding of Dolby Digital and DTS-encoded soundtracks. In addition, HDCD precision filtering and decoding provides true 20-bit audio resolution from the growing number of HDCD-enhanced CDs and also enhances the playback sound of conventional CDs.

Toshiba SD2700 DVD Player Specifications

The Toshiba SD2700 DVD player has all the standard features Toshiba incorporates into their DVD players, such as parallel video output, Dolby Digital and DTS compatible output, Spatializer N-2-2 virtual surround sound, three slow-motion speeds, and an icon-based onscreen display. But on this model, they've gone one step further by adding HDCD precision filtering and decoding for HDCD playback, and they've made it DVD/CD/Video CD/CD-R//DVD-R compatible.

Key features also include ColorStream component-video outputs. This component-video connection is the ideal way to connect a digital video source like DVD to a TV display resulting in increased image purity, incredibly lifelike colors, and crisp color resolutions. The 10-bit D/A converter with high-resolution filter ensures excellent picture quality, while the 24-bit/192 kHz audio converter with dialogue enhancement renders clear and dynamic sound reproduction.

Some of the more convenient features are four forward and reverse scan speeds and a unique first-setup menu that assists viewers in accurately setting up their player to suit their system's capabilities. Parental lock, time search, camera angle select, and 4-power picture zoom are all included on this model, as are S-video, composite video, and coaxial digital outputs, giving you a wide range of connection options.

The SD2700 comes with a remote control and a one-year warranty on parts and a 90-day warranty on labor from Toshiba.

Looks, feels and operates like a VCR Compatible with Robot, Sensormatic and other major multiplexers Removable hard disk drive , Duplex mode for simultaneous recording/playback or recording/archiving , Synchronized playback of audio and video , User-defined settings for recording rate and resolution , Standard USB 2.0 for external video archiving , Encrypted image protection Event search by alarm or time/date , Activity log for effective system management , Advanced scheduler , User friendly GUI menu system in multiple languages , Reliable embedded real-time operating system , Printer port for image documentation , Front panel lock out The DR1000 series single-channel digital video recorder (DVR) operates just like a VCR. However, it has many features that make it much more powerful and easier to use than even the most advanced VCR. The DVR converts analog video (NTSC or PAL) to digital images, and records them on a removable hard disk drive. Using a hard disk drive allows users to access recorded video almost instantaneously without having to rewind or fast forward tape. The unit also has duplex capability, which means users can simultaneously record and playback, or record and archive, to an external hard drive using the DVR?s USB port. The DR1000 will also record one audio track, which will playback in sync with the video images. The DR1000 series records images in a digital ML-JPEG format. Digitally recorded video has several advantages over analog video recorded on tape. There is no need to adjust tracking. You can freeze frames and forward or rewind without image streaking or tearing. Digital video can be indexed by time/date or events, and users can instantly view video after selecting the time/date or event. The image compression uses an encrypted format that resists tampering, and will indicate evidence of any image tampering. The DVR will alert users when the hard disk drive is full, or it can be set up to record over the oldest video
