The DVR converts analog video (NTSC or PAL) to digital images, and records them on a removable hard disk drive. Using a hard disk drive allows users to access recorded video almost instantaneously without having to rewind or fast forward tape. The unit also has duplex capability, which means users can simultaneously record and playback, or record and archive, to an external hard drive using the DVR?s USB port. The DR1000 will also record one audio track, which will playback in sync with the video images. The DR1000 series records images in a digital ML-JPEG format. Digitally recorded video has several advantages over analog video recorded on tape. There is no need to adjust tracking. You can freeze frames and forward or rewind without image streaking or tearing. Digital video can be indexed by time/date or events, and users can instantly view video after selecting the time/date or event. The image compression uses an encrypted format that resists tampering, and will indicate evidence of any image tampering. The DVR will alert users when the hard disk drive is full, or it can be set up to record over the oldest video
