I bought this player on a recommendation and am very pleased with my purchase. Although it depends on your criteria, I think this is a very good buy.

I don't have an amazing entertainment system. I cannot judge its capabilities in that area (although there is an obvious improvement over video). I wanted a DVD player because I am a movie buff and I love the extras. And that's what I got. It is easy and hasn't given me any problems.

The only thing (and this goes for all DVD players, I found out) is that you might require another piece of equipment before you can get it to work. Look at the back of your TV. If you only have one antenna spot, you need to buy an RF modulator too. Just a little tip that I didn't know about.

In summary, I would recommend this player. Be warned, though, because it causes a hysteria where you feel you must watch WAY too many movies!

The Samsung DVD-M201 DVD player is an affordably priced model that features state-of-the-art composite-video outputs, a slim design, and a dual-laser pickup. The dual-laser design, which employs separate laser diodes for DVD and CD playback, enhances video and audio quality and extends format compatibility to CD-Rs and CD-RWs. The player's Spatializer N-2-2 sound circuit simulates surround sound through your TV or stereo speakers, while its 96-kHz/24-bit audio converters deliver pristine audio quality from DVDs and CDs. The back-panel Toslink optical and RCA coaxial terminals each pass a 96-kHz/24-bit audio stream for use with the latest high-end audio recordings (though be aware that your receiver must be able to decode your 96 kHz recordings if you use a digital connection there).The DVD-M201 includes left/right analog-audio outputs for compatibility with Dolby Pro Logic receivers and, in case you don't have a receiver yet, TV inputs. This unit also supports both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel formats through its digital outputs for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver or an external digital-to-analog converter (DAC). In the video realm, the M201's 10-bit video DAC ensures precision playback of high-resolution DVD signals. Analog video components are also selected to optimize performance. Composite video output terminals provide the optimum connection between the DVD-M201 and an advanced direct-view or projection TV system. The unit also offers standard component- and S-video outputs.

I purchased one of these several years ago for my office reception area. It has played, and played, and played and still looks great, never a problem since purchased in late 2001. The picture is very clear and sound is average for a low end unit. I have been in the professional video and audio production business for 24 years and I am a video/audio technician. We have professional DVD players and recorders in my studio and they really don't look that much better than the Samsung DVD-P230, 231, or the 331. It's a toss-up which one of the Samsung DVD players I would buy now! But if you want to spend a lot of money then yes, go with a high end Sony or Pioneer, they will be glad to take your money too.
